United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF) – The IGF Process

The Swiss IGF is the national chapter of the UN Internet Governance Forum, the global process in which all stakeholders reach a consensus on the rules of the internet (“Internet Governance”). The global Internet Governance Forum was established in 2005 at the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Since then, numerous regional and national forums have formed spontaneously. At the regional level—i.e., pan-European—the IGF process is conducted within the framework of EuroDIG. The Swiss IGF has existed since 2015; it is organized independently of the other levels and is generally held annually.
